Seaside

Anneliese was born in Munich, Germany on December 16, 1926 to Emil Mehling and Anna Hirschmann. Her mother passed when Anneliese was very young, but she had very fond memories of spending time with her father, riding bikes and exploring nature in Germany. Anneliese’s childhood was marred by the horror of World War II; because of this she grew to have a great respect for life and her beliefs in God. Anneliese met Bill Eddy, while he was serving in the military, stationed in Germany, they soon married, Helga the oldest child was born in Munich, Germany. In 1952 they moved to Ohio where son Bill and daughter Evelyn were born. In 1957, still in the military they moved to Alturas, Calf. where their third daughter Melissa was born. After leaving the military the family moved to Gaston, Oregon where the youngest daughter Joanne was born. In 1967 the family moved to Gearhart. Anneliese started her career at the Oceanfront Windjammer then later became the property manager of the Surfside Condos. After a divorce Anneliese married Mel Meadows in 1979, Mel passed in 1993, subsequently she devoted her energy to family, church, animals, and her flowers. Anneliese was instrumental in the organization of the Octoberfest in Seaside; she was often seen on the dance floor doing the chicken dance. She was also very active in the Seaside Christian Church, which would become the Lighthouse Christian Church as a Sunday School Teacher and acted as the treasurer for a time. She was very deep with tradition, from her unmistaken accent, family, food, beliefs, her home town prior to the war, board games, and making her children sing Silent Night in German every Christmas Eve before they could open presents. She especially enjoyed watching the beauty and power of the ocean from her home in Gearhart.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Bill Eddy, second husband Mel Meadows and grandson Reggie Jackson.
Anneliese is survived by daughters Helga Davis (Warrenton), Evelyn and Willie Tompkins (Gearhart), Melissa Eddy (Gearhart), Joanne and Bob Fulgaro, (Vancouver, Wash.) and son Bill and Debbie Eddy (Gearhart).
Known as Oma to her grandchildren, Lisa and Kris Moore, Casey and Erin Jackson, Kevin and Nikki Goodrich, Billy and Melissa Eddy, Brian and Julie Eddy, Amanda and Matt Merz, Michael Fulgaro and her 9 great grandchildren.
