Bonnie Jean Skaggs, 73, passed away peacefully on Nov. 22, 2015. She was born to Roy and Edna Fitzell in Milwaukie, Oregon.
Bonnie married Warren (Buck) Skaggs in 1972 at Lake Tahoe, and they made their home in Kissville, Oregon, on a family homestead.
Bonnie was employed at the Wauna Federal Credit Union for approximately three years, was a volunteer at the Astoria Police Department and held several different offices at the Astoria Senior Center. She loved helping other people, whether it was balancing their checkbook, baking cookies, or just being a friend. Her love of gardening was apparent in her beautifully landscaped home.
Traveling on cruise ships was a passion, taking her to many countries around the world. Out of 10 different cruises, the Mediterranean cruise was always her favorite.
Bonnie loved to read, having read thousands of suspense novels. She enjoyed trading books with her many friends, and hunting for that one book she hadn't read by a favorite author.
Bonnie was never one to sit idle. Whether she was sitting behind her sewing machine or with a crochet hook in hand, Bonnie loved creating useful items from a piece of fabric or a ball of yarn. It was her love of crafting that lead her to become a familiar, smiling face as a vendor at the Astoria Sunday Market and other craft shows. Bonnie treasured her many customers and most of all the friendships that developed over the years.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, her son Corey
(Trina), granddaughter Brianna, brother Butch (Ying Ying), and sister Bev, all of whom she loved dearly.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 9 at the Lighthouse Christian Church.
