Corey Gene Olson A Life A Gift
March 1, 1956 December 29, 2012
Coreys journey began in Medford, Oregon on March 1st, 1956. He was the son of Ben E. and Dolores I. Olson. The first of three boys, they grew up to be best buddies. Coreys youth was full of fun, rascally activities; camping, go carts, hikes in the woods and fishing.
Corey had the gift of love. In 1991 Corey met his "sweetheart", life partner, favorite traveling companion and wife, Joanne Grudenic. Jo & Corey had a full life of travel, they made friends in Spain, Costa Rica, Mexico, Ireland, Bali, Singapore, and London. He loved his summer fishing trips to Alaska. Wherever Corey went he made friends, he was quick to smile and draw people in with his hearty laugh. Life was rich and truly enjoyed.
Corey had a gift for hard work, starting life as a logger with his brothers, but an accident caused him to leave logging. He then started commercial fishing. He did not stop there; he started an asphalt sealcoat business, then a construction company, and land development. Corey and Jo enjoyed organic gardening and bought Smith Creek Nursery in Raymond, Washington.
Friendship and kindness were gifts Corey shared with many; he never judged a person or held any grudges. He was always the first to offer help to anyone! Corey was a mentor to many young men and helped them grow to become productive citizens. He was very proud of his work with the Sons of the American Legion. They raised money to help those in need of food, shelter, heat or even a water heater. He raised money to fund local Hospice and Home Health Care.
This last Christmas Corey gave his family the gift of his happy presence. He willed himself to participate in family activities. He is loved and missed by all of them; wife, Joanne, sisters & brothers; Terri & Bruce Johnson, Rex Olson & Cindy Langa, Ben & Tami Olson. Aunts and Uncles; Kathy & Ray Hoefler, Roy and Margaret Chase. Corey was favorite uncle to; Nick & Kelly, Michael & Soorya and Galen Grudenic: Erika Johnson & Daniel: Sara, Regan & Emily Wirkkala: Joey Daniels & Jaime: Kathleen, Sean & Isabel Laib: Michelle, Sean, Chloe & Natalie Borst: Rex, Julia & Ethan Olson: Miranda, Jessica and Benny Olson.
Coreys gift of love, acceptance and kindness lives on. He will be remembered always by everyone who met him and shared in his gift of life. His journey continues in each smile and act of kindness shared by those who love him. God bless this kind man as he starts his journey to the next place.
