Donald Frederick Fastabend passed away October 9, 2013 in Portland, Oregon. Don was born in Astoria, Oregon on September 11, 1930 to John and Elizabeth (Shea) Fastabend, and was one of eight children. In 1951 he married Helen Tysko. They lived in Astoria and raised 5 children. She passed away in 2004. Don worked for, and then owned Astoria Marine Construction Company (AMCCO) for over 55 years. He is survived by his daughter Terri and her husband Jim Bekken of Hillsboro,Or, and sons and their wives, Tim and Tammy Fastabend of Astoria, Mark and Janet Fastabend of Federal Way, Wa, David and Heidi Fastabend of Astoria, and Christopher and Nicole Fastabend of Neustadt, Germany. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Liisa, Kristen, John, Maia, Sina, Kjirsten, Paul-Frederick and Alexander. Don is also survived by his brothers John H (Jack) of Richland, Washington, Robert of Vancouver, Washington, Paul of Astoria, and a sister Catherine Vanhorn of Astoria. His wife, parents and brothers Joseph, William, and Charles Anthony preceded him in death. Viewing is October 13th from 3-5 pm at Hughes Ransom Mortuary chapel Astoria. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don's name may be made to Columbia River Maritime Museum or St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church.
