Janice Darleen Harrod passed peacefully in her sleep at her son's home in Astoria, Oregon on January 12, 2017.
Jan was born on October 28, 1928 in Long Beach, California to parents Peter and Jennie Cherry. She was the youngest child of four, being preceded in death by a brother Francis, sister Mary, and is survived by sister Lydia Alpenfels in southern California. Jan married the love of her life Charles (Chuck) Robert Thomas in June 1949. Jan and Chuck had three sons. James Thomas (deceased), Jeff (Lori) Harrod of Portland, Oregon, and Gregg (Teri) Harrod of Lake Oswego, Oregon. Chuck passed away in July, 1959 and Jan moved the family from Pasadena, California to Warrenton, Oregon to be near her sister Mary Chamberlain.
Jan married William Marvin Harrod, Sr. in September 1960. Joining the family were William Marvin Harrod, Jr. (deceased) and together they had a son Ronald (Jennifer) Harrod, Astoria, Oregon.
Jan also leaves behind daughter in law Michelle Thomas, Warrenton, Oregon, 10 grandchildren, 19 great grand children, and 2 great great grand children. Jan lived in Warrenton, Oregon for 35 years working at the post office in both Warrenton and Astoria before settling in the Tigard, Oregon area in 1995. While living in Warrenton Jan was active in her community. She was Skipper of the Astoria Anchors in 1989 enjoying every moment of working with the young ladies involved in the Astoria Regatta activities. Jan was also involved in the Miss Clatsop County Pageant and the American Cancer Society. The family will hold private graveside services. Contributions in Jan's memory may be made to the Astoria Regatta or the American Cancer Society.
