Joan Barbara Hill, 85 of Seaside, passed peacefully in her Hamlet home April 10, after being surrounded since Easter Sunday by family and friends.
Joan was born in Island Pond, Vermont, to Harry and Irene Osborne. Joan, one of seven children, undoubtedly enjoyed her childhood in Island Pond, where she later met and married the love of her life, Donald Hill, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage.
The two settled in Oregon, where they proudly raised five children. Together, Don and Joan brought great joy to those who were lucky enough to have known them. Joan was welcoming, loved to entertain, and was an exceptional cook. She prepared countless delicious meals and cobblers for her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved her family unconditionally, and was a blessing to those around her.
Joan was a member of the Seaside United Methodist Church, and belonged to the Chapter CR PEO Sisterhood. Past and present, she actively took pleasure in bowling, golfing, dancing, playing pinochle, and having lunch with her dearest girlfriends. She spent countless hours watching and feeding the birds behind her country home.
Joan spoke very fondly of her family back in Vermont, and thoroughly enjoyed her summer trips home to Island Pond. Joan left a great legacy of what family should be, in those she raised, loved, and spent time with. In lieu of sorrow, express your love. After all, everything is temporary, but love will outlast us all.
Joan is survived by her husband Donald Hill; her sisters Lorraine Caouette and Ruth Perrier; her brother Lynwood Osborne; her son David Hill; and her daughters Sherry Bode, Barbara Maltman and Lorraine Brown. She was predeceased by her brothers Maynard Osborne, Donald Osborne and Robert Osborne; by her son James Hill; and by her granddaughter Julie Brown. She was loved and adored by 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, with three additional great-grandbabies on the way.
A memorial service honoring Joan will be held Monday, April 18 at 1 p.m., at the Seaside United Methodist Church.
Donations in memory of Joan can be made to the Seaside United Methodist Church, 241 North Holladay Drive, Seaside, OR 97138; to the Chapter CR PEO, c/o Judy Kapellan, 2137 Fernwood, Seaside, OR 97138; or to the Julie Brown Mental Health Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 1377, Long Beach, WA 98631.
