John Pate, age 77, of Seaside, died March 23, 2014, in Seaside, Oregon. He was born December 5, 1936, to Sylvia Niemi Pate Mann and Ralph Luther Pate. John worked in logging in the Northwest and served in the Marines stationed in Japan 1954-57. In his younger days, he was well known around town for his guitar playing and singing. He was talented in fixing and restoring cars and could transform normal household objects into pieces of art often selling modified models of motorized boats and planes.
In his later years he enjoyed putting up a Christmas tree at the Cove every year, and would enjoy watching locals and tourists alike place found "presents" under the tree.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister Janet Rounds.
Survived by his family in Phoenix: his daughter Cindy (Korff) Cozzi; grandchildren Amy Oyler, Shannon and Dustin Youso; and 2 great granddaughters, Amelie and Katharine. Sister Sharon Mowick of McMinnville, as well as several nieces and nephews.
John's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Necanicum Village for their loving care.
