Mr. Pogue was born to Garlind and Nettie (Kelly) Pogue February 7, 1926, in Aberdeen, Mississippi. He grew up and attended schools in Greenwood Springs, Mississippi.
In 1943, he entered the United States Navy, where he received a certificate of special congregational recognition for serving in the European African Middle Eastern Algeria Theater during WWII.
On November 2, 1946 he married Helen E. Larson in Astoria, Oregon; she preceded him in death in 1988. In October of 1947, after his term in the Navy was completed, he became the owner and operator of service stations in Astoria, Seaside and Cannon Beach. Lloyd and Helen spent their life together raising their children in Clatsop County.
Mr. Pogue developed real estate in Cannon Beach. In 1963, he began acquiring motel rentals. He also was a volunteer sheriff reserve in Yuma and Clatsop county. In 1993, he married Harriet Thompson in Cannon Beach, Oregon; she preceded him in death in 2012.
He served as Clatsop County planning commissioner for many years. Lloyd was a member of The American Legion, The Masonic Lodge, Astoria Elks Lodge #180 and The Shriners. He did volunteer work with these organizations. Mr. Pogue was a member of Newlife Baptist Church in Astoria.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Brian and Peggy Pogue of Seaside, Oregon, daughter and son-in-law Teresa and Joel Pratt of Rainer, Oregon, stepson Klyde Thompson and stepdaughter Debra Angus both of Astoria, Oregon, brother Ralph Pogue of Houston, Texas, grandchildren Elkie Henry of Clatskanie, Oregon, Amber Fitzgerald of Rainer, Oregon, Kim Santos of Gearhart, Oregon, Aaron and Nathan Pogue both of Beaverton, Oregon. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton, Oregon. A reception will follow at Newlife Baptist Church in Astoria, Oregon.
