Mark Windus, 72, passed away at his brother’s home in Astoria, Oregon, on November 25th, 2024, from cancer.
Mark was a long-time Longview resident who many will remember as a helpful garden expert at Windus Feed and Seed Store. When the Windus store closed, he took his customer service skills to Lowes. His work at the Vancouver Lowes store made him many friends among customers and co-workers alike.
When not at work, Mark enjoyed fishing, writing, and restoring a string of classic MGB cars. He was most at home in the woods (often searching for Bigfoot), at a bar with friends (many of whom he had known from childhood), or tinkering with anything mechanical (sometimes in ways that made sense only to himself).
His friends will remember him for his quick mind that saw the world through a unique lens. This is evidenced by his wish for anyone wishing to perform a memorial service to do so by: “Placing a cereal bowl, coffee cup, or fruit jar outside when it looks like rain. When it quits raining, examine the water. Then pour it on the ground where the bowl was.”
Those that were lucky enough to love and be loved by Mark will not forget his compassion, kindness, and sense of social justice. Donations in his memory can be made to the American Civil Liberties Union, Amnesty International, or Doctors Without Borders.
