Melvin N. Maki, 78 We are sad to announce the passing of our twinkle eyed, fun loving father Melvin N. Maki. Born to Arvid E. & Gertrude M. Maki (Sotka) 5/11/40. Mel loved his Finnish heritage and was a proud graduate of Astoria H.S. in 58. He received a Bachelors Degree from U of O and a Masters from Portland State University in Business & Engineering, he was a master of numbers. Working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Dredging) and NOAA (Ocean Floor Surveying) had him traveling all over the USA and out on the ocean, which he loved dearly. He is survived by his adoring family in Portland OR, Helvetia OR & Clackamas OR. A loving service will be held at 2pm, Friday 6/15/18 at Hughes-Ransom, 576 12th St., Astoria. A graveside service will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, in Astoria (all are invited). In lieu of flowers (because of our fathers love of the ocean), remembrances may be made to the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria. "In memory of Melvin N. Maki". http://www.crmm.org
