camping, and riding motorcycles to the top of the mountain to barbecue were some of his
favorite things. He loved watching old westerns, taking the grandchildren on rides in the trailer
attached to the riding lawnmower, woodworking, and gardening. Richard spent many seasons
hunting with father-in-law, Ben Ivarie and son, James, he loved getting together with his sister,
Nancy and brother-in-law, Ron & family where he had a second home. He was quite the inventor
creating anything that was needed at the time! Richard also enjoyed visiting and gambling in
Reno and Jackpot, Nevada.
Richard served active duty in the Army from 1956-1959 and three reserve years. He had a career
as a contractor at Bergeson NW for many years, he was a successful self-employed contractor
and 1985-1996 as Assistant Supervisor of Maintenance at Clatsop Community College.
He is survived by his sister, Nancy Lierman, his wife, Laurie Beatty, his children, Vicki Ellsberg,
