Richard Reginald Trent

Richard R. Trent was born in McMinnville, Or March 19, 1939 to Richard R. Norris and Lois Mae Moe. They later divorced and Lois married J. Everett Trent. Dick and his three siblings took the Trent name. Dick unexpectedly passed away in his home in Astoria November 12, 2024 at the age of 85. 

On August 24, 1958 he married Donna Lee McGill in McMinnville, OR. They were married 66 years at the time of his death.

Dick attended several elementary schools, the last being Nestucca Grade school. He attended and graduated from Nestucca High School. He played football for a time and was also a sports journalist for the paper in Tillamook. He attended Linfield College for a time. 

Dick enlisted in the Navy in 1958 where he was a Sonarman on the USS Stoddard in San Diego. He was honorably discharged in 1960.

 Later he worked at Boise Cascade Mill putting himself through college. He got his degree at Western Oregon College getting his first teaching job at Mazama Middle School in Klamath Falls where he taught P.E. and coached basketball. In 1976, the family moved to Turner, OR where he was a counselor at Cascade High School and coached the girls golf team until his retirement in 1997. He got his Masters Degree in 1977 at the same time his daughter Theresa was graduating from high school. They had fun getting pictures together in their caps and gowns. 

Dick was a member of the OSAA and worked games for 50 years. He was one of the best white hats in the association working football, basketball and baseball games. He was awarded the Salem Basketball Officials Association Commissioner's Award three times.

He was recognised for his loyal and valuable service to Project Cascade Kids and Cougar Foundation. During the holidays he helped to distribute food boxes to families in need and continued this tradition in retirement picking a family and supplying them with a food box.

Dick ran the Hood to Coast relay race on team Heart and Sole for 15 years, eventually running every leg of the race. 

He was a member of the Elks Club in Independence, OR for 61 years.

Dick loved to fish, camp, and hunt. He enjoyed his many camping and hunting trips with the Rowlands spanning over 30 years and told of many tales of their adventures.

He was a Beekeeper for many years and supplied family and friends with much honey and also sold it for a number of years. He loved planting flowers and vegetable gardens sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends.

In 2000 he and Donna moved to Astoria, OR. He had a small orchard of four apple trees harvesting the apples to feed his many deer friends. He would go out and call "hey mama hey mama" and his deer would come to the sound of his voice to get their apples. Over the years the mamas brought their babies to him for the apples. One day a mama even bedded down her baby underneathe his deck and left it there all day knowing her baby would be safe there. 

He is survived by wife Donna Trent of Astoria, daughters Theresa Trent of Seaside, OR and Sabrina Knight and husband Cris of Quitman, TX.

Grandchildren Scott Cain, Zach (Jenn) Nyberg, Ryan Stamper, CJ Knight, Dylan Knight, Nicolas Knight, Shana Hullender and Cristan Knight. And two great-granddaughters, Lucy and Jozie Nyberg.

Brothers Don Trent of Hillsboro, Jim (Carol) Trent of Boise and Sister Pat (Wally) Rowland of Crestwell, OR.

along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Celebration of Dick's life will be November 30, 2024 at the Christian Church 1376 S.E. Anchor Ave. Warrenton, OR at 1:00.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in his name as this foundation now helps and supports our veterans.
