Robert Keith Bish (Bob)

Born November 16, 1932 to Charles Meryl Bish and Elizabeth Bush Bish in Berkley, California. He had two brothers, William (Bing) and Thomas (Tommy).

Charles was a presbyterian minister, he died when Robert was 9 years old. Elizabeth then worked for the U.S.O. during World War II, moving to many locations in California, causing Robert attend many different schools. He graduated from West Covina High School and joined the U.S. Navy; he served in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1953. He lived in Wilmington and San Pedro, CA and later in Long Beach, CA.

Robert was active in local community theatre, where he starred in Mister Roberts, playing the part of Ensign Pulver, as he bore a striking resemblance to Jack Lemmon. He later starred in the play “The Moon is Blue” where he met his future wife, Susan. They were married in 1955. Robert and Susan had two sons, Stephen and Timothy, who survive him, as well as their children Mandee Brown, Bree Libertad, and Vanessa Bish.

In 1955 Bob “got his book” and became a Class A longshoreman in Wilmington and San Pedro. He made many friends, enjoyed the work, and was a proud member of Local 13, holding many offices while there. He later moved to Astoria and became a member of Local 50. He retired early in 1995 and became a serious golfer, playing well into his 70’s and 80’s.

Robert is also survived by his great grandchildren, Wesley Brown, Gioia Brown, Sahalie Heavenrich, Solomon Heavenrich, Rumi Libertad, and his daughter-in-law Diane Bish.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
