Shirley May Cole

Shirley May Cole was born in Astoria, Oregon on May 25th 1945. She was the youngest of three daughters born to Andy and Laverne Semmen. She was raised in Seaside, Oregon and graduated from Seaside High School. After high school Shirley attended Clatsop Community College, and graduated with an associates degree in business. After college Shirley moved to San Francisco where she worked for Bank of America. She moved home to Seaside, in 1970 with her two daughters and began a career at Maki insurance. On September 13, 1974 Shirley married the love of her life, Greg Cole and entered the happiest years of her life. Shirley very successfully ran her own business for a several years, and then worked at Reed and Hertig until her retirement. After retiring Shirley enjoyed traveling the world, spending time with her family, and volunteering. Shirley became very active in the Seaside Elks lodge during the last several years of her life. She and Greg volunteered their time generously to the Elks where they both served in several officer positions. Shirley was known for her successful Elks dinners and convention skits. She will be missed for her sense of humor, cooking, kindness, and her ready smile. Shirley passed away peacefully in Chicago, IL on Thursday, October 24, 2013. During the last months of Shirley's life she received many calls, cards, and letters that were very much treasured and appreciated. Shirley is survived by her husband Greg, her daughters Alison Cole and Stephanie Dooley, her granddaughters Emma and Amelia, and her sister Leanne Collins. A viewing is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday Nov. 1st at Hughes-Ransom Mortuary in Seaside. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Nov 2nd at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Seaside and a graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery will follow. Please join the family for a celebration of Shirley's life at the Seaside Elks Lodge immediately following the services.
