William "Stan" Gibson

March 1, 1949 — December 10, 2013

William Stanley (Stan) Gibson was born March 1, 1949, to John Paul (Jack) Gibson and Harriet May (Lamb) Gibson. Stan died on December 10, 2013, in Seaside, OR. His loss is deeply felt by those who remain. Stan was born in Oregon City, OR. He lived his first five years in Seaside. He moved with his family to Portland, OR. Stan's parents divorced in 1956. Later, Stan's mother, Harriet, remarried Bob Waddell. At this point, Stan became an Air Force brat. Stan traveled with his family and settled in Fairfield, CA, in 1963. Stan was an honor student at the California Maritime Academy where he graduated in 1971. He was commissioned as a Navy Ensign and a Third Assistant Engineer in the Merchant Marines. He bought his first house in Warrenton, OR, and lived there for four years before relocating to San Diego, CA. Stan sailed all over the world with the Merchant Marines on numerous ships. He ended his career on the USNS Yukon as the Chief Engineer. His love for the Oregon Coast never left, and he returned to Cannon Beach/Seaside area after his retirement from the Merchant Marines in June 2007. Stan is survived by his beautiful daughters, Rachel and Patricia (Trish) and his grandchildren Edan and Josephene. Stan will be missed by many, including his best friend and brother Steve; his brothers Doug, Alan, Jack, Leo and Richard; and his sisters Leanne, Teri, Leslie and Dianne; numerous cousins, aunts, uncle, friends, co-workers, acquaintances, etc. Stan touched many lives with his sweet disposition. We certainly love and miss our big Teddy Bear, Stan.
